HOME HEALTH
Home Health is for those people who need skilled medical services in their home for the treatment of an illness or injury. Medicare will pay for these services as long as a person meets the criteria to qualify for coverage.
Home Health services include: skilled nursing care, home health aide services, physical therapy, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, medical social services, some medical supplies, and some medical equipment.
To qualify for Medicare home health coverage, a person must meet all four of the following criteria:
1) A doctor must have determined that a person needs medical care in the home, and the doctor must have a home care plan for that person.
2) The care needed must include intermittent ( not full time) skilled nursing care, or physical therapy, or speech language pathology services.
3) A person must be homebound. It must be an considerable and taxing effort for a person to leave the home in order to be considered homebound. If a person does leave the home it must be infrequent, or of short duration, or to get medical care. Any facility that provides skilled nursing or rehabilitation services does not qualify as home.
4) The home health agency must be one that is approved by Medicare.
