EAMC Support Groups

Whatever your experience, you don’t have to go it alone. East Alabama Medical Center offers or hosts a variety of support groups where people help each other by sharing.

Services provided include:

  • AL-ANON

    A support group for family and friends of alcoholics.

    - Meets Monday evenings at 6 p.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Auburn
    - Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Opelika
    - Thursdays at noon (for women only) at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn

  • Alcoholic Anonymous

    Alcoholics Anonymous has a number of closed and open meetings in the area. Please call the number below for more information on meeting locations and times.

  • Battered Women

    A support group for women who have been mentally or physically abused by their partner. Meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Sponsored by the Domestic Violence Intervention Center. Child Care is provided.

  • Bosom Buddies

    Open to all breast cancer survivors. Meets on the 1st Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at EAMC's Health Resource Center (except during the summer). Facilitated by Colleen Alsobrook, RN, Breast Health Navigator, and Chelsea Kroll, LGSW.

  • Breast Feeding

    Meets each Thursday at noon in the third floor day room at East Alabama Medical Center.

  • Caregiver and Alzheimer's Disease Support Group

    A support group for caregivers and those affected by Alzheimer's Disease. Meets the 1st Monday of every month at 10 a.m. at Magnolia Place (1553 Professional Parkway, Auburn, AL 36830).

  • Chronic Pain

    The Auburn Pain Group offers a 10-session therapy group using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy to manage Chronic Pain. The sessions, which are FREE and take place over a 10-week period, are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 8 in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Auburn.   • Compassionate Friends

    The Compassionate Friends is a support group for parents who have lost a child. The group meets the first Thursday of each month at the EAMC Health Resource Center.

  • Crisis Center

    Confidential telephone listing and referral services are available from the Crisis Center of East Alabama.

  • Diabetes Focus Support Group

    Meets quarterly.

    Contact: Any staff member at The Diabetes and Nutrition Center at (334) 528-3265.

  • Grief Support Group

    Open and free to Hospice families as well as the general public. Meets at the Health Resource Center from 10-11 a.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the 4th Monday of each month.

  • Lupus

    People with Lupus – Group leader and facilitator Rebecca Glass, RN, calls it an “upbeat support group that is more like a ‘lupus family.’” The group offers education, advocacy and support, and welcomes persons with arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and other related conditions.   • Mended Hearts

    A support group for anyone concerned with heart disease and post and present cardiac rehab patients. It is a national organization supported by the American Heart Association. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at EAMC's Health Resource Center.

  • N.A.M.I. East Alabama

    National Alliance of the Mentally Ill. Has 2 support groups. For families of the mentally ill, meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at Bancorp South on Pepperell Parkway in Opelika. Open group meets the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at Bancorp South on Pepperell Parkway in Opelika.

  • Ostomy Support Group

    This group is for persons who have undergone procedures resulting in an ostomy (e.g., colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy). For information, contact Patty Brown, RN, at (334) 528-8180.

  • Safe House

    Offers a safe shelter for women who have been abused by their partner.

    Contact: Can call collect at (334) 749-1515, 24 hours a day.

  • Teal Magnolias

    Teal Magnolias is a gynecological cancer support and education group. Our mission is to support women who are going through the journey with ovarian, cervical, uterine or other gynecological cancers.   • Victims and Family of Domestic Violence

    A support group for victims and family of domestic violence. For women only. Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. (call for location).

  • V.O.C.A.L.

    The East Alabama Chapter of Victims of Crime and Leniency provides support for victims of crime and their families.
