Studies show that people with diabetes do better when they have help from a healthcare team. The Diabetes and Nutrition Center at East Alabama Medical Center has a team of certified professionals who specialize in diabetes and understand your needs. The team includes nurses, dietitians, social workers and exercise physiologists, and they work with you and your physician to give you the services you need to effectively manage your diabetes.
Our outpatient services give you the information and support you need to manage your diabetes. These services include:
- Diabetes management classes (Event Calendar)
- One-on-one services that provide comprehensive diabetes education including medications, nutrition, exercise, stress management and complications
- Meal planning
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Insulin pump initiation
- Carbohydrate counting
Personal sessions are available for patients with special needs. Support groups are also provided for adults and juveniles on topics of interest to people with diabetes.
A major component of our services is medical nutrition therapy, which we offer for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia (high lipids or fats in the bloodstream), metabolic syndrome, and those who need assistance with weight management.
The Diabetes and Nutrition Center office is located at 500 E. Thomason Circle on the west side of the East Alabama Medical Center campus, and our hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m.- 4: 00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 334-528-6800 for more information.
