East Alabama Medical Center has a hospitalist program in place where there are dedicated hospital medicine specialists in-house 24 hours a day to provide medical oversight and care to our patients. Hospitalists are residency-trained, licensed physicians. They come from several medical disciplines, but general internal medicine is the most common (about 75 percent). This reflects the fact that residency training in internal medicine typically focuses on the care of acutely ill, hospitalized patients. The major difference between hospitalists and other medical specialists is that most hospitalists do not have a practice outside the hospital.
The hospitalists on the medical staff at EAMC are all physician members of Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. of Opelika.
