The Laboratory at East Alabama Medical Center is truly state-of-the-art offering a broad test menu and rapid turnaround times for specimen processing and result reporting. The lab is divided into the following sub-sections: Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology. Highly trained and highly skilled Medical Technologists perform the testing at EAMC.
Although the lab at EAMC operates, 24hrs a day, seven days a week, Lab Outreach of East Alabama offers two convenient specimen collection sites; one at Auburn Diagnostic Imaging in Auburn and one at Building 22 of the Medical Arts Center in Opelika. No appointment is necessary at either location; however, an order from a physician is required. Depending on the orders, lab work may need to be collected at a specific time of day and/or require diet restrictions. Lab specimens are transported to the EAMC Laboratory via courier service operated by Lab Outreach. Results of any lab testing will be sent directly to the ordering physician.
Both laboratory services operate under Independent Clinical Laboratory licensures and are subject to the standards required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA). Lab Outreach is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). The Laboratory at East Alabama Medical Center is accredited by the College of American Pathologist (CAP).
