The Nutrition and Food Services Department at East Alabama Medical Center plans, prepares and coordinates the daily service of meals within the hospital. In addition to operating The Terrace Café, the NFS Department also provides catered food service for meetings and other functions held at EAMC.
The Nutrition and Food Services Department is committed to providing high-quality food and excellent service. We know how important balanced and healthy foods are to our patients and guests.
All of the department’s clinical dietitians are credentialed through the American Dietetic Association and work collaboratively with other health care providers on a daily basis to provide nutrition care in the treatment of patients. Services include nutrition assessment and medical nutrition therapy.
In addition, our dietitians are involved in numerous outpatient support groups and programs and speak to various organizations within the community.
When a patient is admitted to EAMC, a diet is prescribed for him or her based on individual needs. Our diets are designed to assist in recuperation and the healing process. We try to meet personal preferences whenever possible.
If the diet prescribed by your physician is new to you, a Registered Dietitian is available to provide education and answer any questions you may have about your new diet. Once you are home, if you still have questions, call 334-528-1177 or e-mail your specific nutrition-related questions to Ask a Dietitian.
For diabetes-specific nutrition or related questions, you may visit the EAMC Diabetes and Nutrition Center web page.
